I downloaded the one Bolverk listed but it didn't have any dictionary options. You will see the typed text turn into katakana. It is a terse Japanese to English English to Japanese does not work so well dictionary with around , entries. The Japanese version of the widespread WordNet synonym database, also converted for Epwing format here. Only really fixes loading edict files with those characters. As part of the daily build of the file, the Japanese headwords are matched against a number of other dictionary files and glosses included for those languages.

A cheap dictionary with a huge amount of entries is Eijiro. The project's master database is continuously being updated and new versions of the files are generated daily. I'm open to adding more, but some of the other sites Like Word Lingo seem to go to some effort to make this difficult. I use it to get the information needed to parse words and display furigana.

I get many requests for a romaji version of EDICT, however as I do not like romaji and do not want to encourage its use, I will not be producing romaji versions. This swaps the input mode.
